A change at the top of the Cleveland office of the FBI is coming.

The longest-serving Special Agent in Charge of the Cleveland office, Steve Anthony, is retiring.

“I knew the day was going to come. I can leave happy knowing if I played some small role," said Anthony.

Some of the investigations on his watch have turned into some of the biggest stories to ever hit Northeast Ohio: the Cuyahoga County Corruption case, the brutal Facebook murder, foiled terrorist plots, and the RNC.

But, one stands out.

“I will never forget that. I received the call that they escaped from the house. Something I will never forget,” said Anthony, explaining when he got the news that Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight escaped from more than a decade of captivity.

Anthony, a Northeast Ohio native, wanted to be an FBI Agent for as long as he can remember. Now, his 31-year career will come to an end at the end of the month.

“Every day is a dream come true, quite frankly, I can’t imagine doing anything else."

Anthony is quick to credit the men and women of the Cleveland office for their hard work and dedication in keeping the public safe.

The FBI has a mandatory retirement age and that is the reason Anthony is leaving. He has accepted another job that will keep him in the Cleveland area.
