AVON LAKE, Ohio — An Avon Lake middle school student has been fighting a different kind of health obstacle during the coronavirus pandemic. After fighting a rare genetic disorder and receiving a new kidney, 12-year-old Morgan was finally able to come home, and when she did, she was surprised with a welcome home parade from her neighborhood.
Morgan spent 11 days in the hospital after receiving her kidney transplant. Little did she know that her neighborhood decided to welcome her in style as they drove down her quiet cul-de-sac.
Her teachers, family, friends, police officers and even the mayor all stopped by to give words of encouragement to Morgan.
"It was tough in the hospital with only me and him there, so to have all our friends and family come out and drive by and say hello was heartwarming, it was fun to surprise her,” said Jen Peachman, Morgan’s mom.
Morgan said at first she just expected to see her grandparents, but the cars just kept driving past her house.
“I didn’t know it was going to be that many people coming and it was crazy, just people kept coming and coming and coming,” she said.
