Fla. teen allegedly kills grandma during fight over beer

A Florida teen is facing murder charges after allegedly killing his grandmother during an argument over beer.

The incident reportedly started on Oct. 10 and initially left 18-year-old Dylan Brougham charged with aggravated battery.

But according to CBS News, which cites the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a murder charge was added Thursday after the victim – 69-year-old Joyce Ann Courson – died from her injuries. Her death was ruled a homicide.

A witness described the altercation between Brougham and Courson as very violent. A sheriff’s officer wrote on Facebook that the witness “heard the victim and suspect arguing because the victim took the suspect’s beer while he was taking shower and she hid it.”

When the witness heard the woman screaming, he arrived to find her body on the floor as Broughman left the house, CBS News further details.

Officials reportedly said of the incident, “the victim was able to tell police that during the argument the suspect began punching holes in the walls near the kitchen of the residence. As the victim was coming down the hall near the kitchen, he pushed her to the ground. After she was on the ground, the suspect held her down and punched her in the face repeatedly with a closed fist and began kicking her while she was on the ground.”

Courson died eight days later.
