Pence claims governor's salary, little else, in federal financial disclosure

INDIANAPOLIS -- Gov. Mike Pence filed federal financial disclosure forms Thursday listing his salary as governor as his only significant source of income.

Unlike his running mate, Donald Trump – whose financial disclosure included multiple pages of income sources from the many companies he either owns or plays a role in – Pence's form listed his only major income source as $173,860 he made as governor in 2015 and 2016 to-date (his annual salary as governor is $111,077).

The form also lists less than $1,000 a year in income from a crafts business, "That's My Towel Charm, Inc.," owned by Pence's wife, Karen.

In addition to his income, Pence listed a bank account with a balance of no more than $15,000 and two 529 education savings plans, also of no more than $15,000 each.

Pence released the following statement along with his financial disclosure:

“Our family has been honored to serve our state and nation. Like many American families, we have been fortunate and blessed to raise three wonderful children and put them through college while doing work that we love.”

Pence's press secretary Marc Lotter said the disclosures show Pence has not used his public status to gain personal wealth.

“As Americans can clearly see, the Pence family has not enriched themselves from their public service, which stands in stark contrast to Bill and Hillary Clinton who traded their public service for tens of millions of dollars in paid speeches, pay-to-play activities, and schemes involving their foundation that led to calls by the FBI for an investigation," Lotter said in a written statement.

Democrat Hillary Clinton, who filed her disclosure earlier this year, claimed more than $5 million in book royalties for her 2014 memoir and $1.5 million for delivering speeches in 2015, according to the New York Times

The Trump Campaign said Pence would be releasing his full tax returns "in the near future." Trump has said he will not release his tax returns until an audit on them is completed. Clinton released her latest tax return last week, and her running mate, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, released 10 years' worth of tax returns the same day.
