DAYTON, Ohio — Dayton, Ohio is both the setting of an Oscar-nominated documentary and home to its filmmakers, Julia Reichert, Steve Bognar and Steven Reichert.
“American Factory” follows a Chinese billionaire as he opens a new automotive factory in the former General Motors plant in Dayton. The documentary sheds light on the clash of culture between the Chinese and American workers.
Cultures collide. Hope survives. When a Chinese billionaire re-opens a factory and hires two thousand blue-collar Americans, early days of hope and optimism give way to setbacks as high-tech China clashes with working-class America. #AmericanFactory pic.twitter.com/Maa7kTcfEY
