CLEVELAND — March was a historic month for businesses in Ohio. There were more than 13,700 new business filings, that's the highest it's ever been in a single month.
"For several years we’ve actually seen a pretty steady increase," said president of the Ohio Senate Larry Obhof.
Senator Obhof says there are lots of reasons new businesses are taking interest in our state.
"We’ve had across the board income tax cuts, we eliminated the death tax, we had targeted tax cuts that benefited small businesses and really provided tax fairness to people who are sole proprietors," he said.
He adds, most of them are small businesses.
"The small businesses are the backbone of Ohio’s economy, obviously we like large businesses, large employers as well, but small businesses, local entrepreneurs who employ 10 or 12 or 20 people those are the majority of employers in Ohio," said Obhof.
Whistle and Keg is just one of many small shops popping up in Northeast Ohio. It's a craft beer bar with a twist. Folks get wristbands when they walk in and use it to pour their own beer.
"When you come in here you don't have to worry about oh, man this beer I want is going to be $12, you control your experience you can pour as little or as much as you want," said chief operations officer Christopher Stanley.
Stanley says it's their second location in Ohio and it's no surprise why they choose Cleveland.
"The business atmosphere in Ohio is going great and this area Cleveland is in a revitalization right now, there's just more and more hotels, apartments, condos being built all around us city life is really coming back in vogue and that's also part of the reason that attracted us to Cleveland," he said.
