State reports an increase in initial jobless claims filed last week

COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the week of Sept. 13-19, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Ohioans filed 17,435 initial jobless claims, an increase from the week before. For the week ending on Sept. 12, Ohioans filed 16,294 initial jobless claims.

The total number of initial jobless claims filed for the week ending on Sept. 19 (17,435) was 256,780 fewer than the peak earlier this year.

Ohioans field 321,057 continued jobless claims last week, which was 455,245 fewer than the peak earlier this year.

The total number of initial jobless claims filed over the last 27 weeks is 1,715,790, which is more than the combined total of those filed during the last four years.

Over the last 27 weeks, the ODJFS has distributed more than $6.6 billion in unemployment compensation payments to more than 809,000 Ohioans.
