CLEVELAND — As bars and restaurants work to reopen May 15, restocking shelves just got a bit easier.

Governor Mike Dewine announced Monday a $500 liquor rebate to bars and restaurants as they purchase those spirits.

The Liquor Rebate Program is through Jobs Oho and the Ohio Department of Commerce.

It’s a one-time rebate, aimed to help businesses purchase alcohol with little to no cost to them.

“This rebate will help a majority of our state's liquor permit holders. The rebate is designed to help reduce the cost of bars and restaurants as they restock their shelves for reopening in the future,” said Governor Dewine. “These are instant and applied as soon as a permit holder places an order from their assigned liquor agency.”

Eligible permit holders will receive the $500 rebate to purchase spirituous liquor, or liquor containing more than 21% alcohol, at their assigned wholesale contract liquor agency.

To qualify for the program, a permit holder must be in good standing with the Ohio Department of Commerce as of March 17.

If there is an issue with the permit, the permit holder will be notified and until it is fixed, cannot qualify for the rebate.

The state said the rebate will be available in mid-May and registered permit holders will be contacted when the rebate is active.

The rebate doesn’t apply when purchasing beer, wine or mixed beverages.
