CLEVELAND — On Mother’s Day weekend, Malley’s Chocolates is typically packed with families picking up sweet treats for the mom in their lives, but this year is different. The company closed last month due to COVID-19 concerns.

While you can’t get Mother’s Day treats, you won’t have to wait long to purchase the Northeast Ohio candy.

Malley’s plans to open seven of its retail shops beginning next week when businesses begin to open under Gov. Mike DeWine’s Stay Safe Ohio order.

The production facility was restarted earlier this week. 15 of the 50 employees at the production facility have since been brought back. Malley’s said it hopes to bring in the remainder by the end of next week.

To protect employees returning to work, Malley’s has ordered face masks and is installing plastic barriers.

The chocolate shop said it may also stagger shifts to ensure proper social distancing and store hours may change.
