MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — Marshall Carpet One in Mayfield Heights is using its resources to support the local businesses that have supported them. Manager, Matt Wien said the effort is exactly what struggling businesses need as they deal with the COVID-19 crisis.

“My grandfather always beat in to us that, ‘hey, you need to focus on local focus on the community,’” said Wien. “You give back to the people that give to you. You see businesses in business for 20, 30, 40 years that have had to close their doors. If you’re fortunate to be able to keep your doors open right now-having the ability to give back to the people that have given to you.”

Starting Monday, Marshall Carpet will encourage people to nominate first responders for a $100 gift certificate the store will buy from local independent restaurants to help support them.

Wien has been buying and giving away the food. He started with frontline workers and first responders.

"You see a plate of food, pizzas coming in and it does something to the morale,” said Mayfield Height Fire Chief, Bruce Elliott." You can see it change. It does mean a lot to the guys; boosting morale. Just a little work like thank you has been touching for all of us.”

Wien said Marshall’s will post their giveaway on Facebook.
