CLEVELAND — For restaurants in Cleveland, staying open has been a challenge for restaurants, but imagine trying to start a new one. The Sixth City Sailors Club opens Friday in downtown Cleveland.

Guests can enjoy food and drinks in a nautical-themed space and open patio, featuring bocce ball and lawn games.

“We want a place that people can just decompress and gives a little bit of an escape,” said own Joseph Fredrickson, owner of Sixth City Sailors Club. “We really were trying to push for something that was fun, approachable and comfortable.”

Fredrickson said he wanted to create a safe social space during the pandemic. Tables and chairs on the patio are set apart for social distancing. Guests will also see plexiglass barriers between seats at the bar. But Fredrickson said the real draw is the menu, prices and service.

“Being able to create a bar that people can come to and they’re able to buy a drink and something to eat that won't break the bank, but feel a little bit more taken care of than your typical dive bar,”he said.

The grand opening is Friday at 668 Euclid Avenue.
