CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Indians are the recipients of the inaugural Rawlings American League Team Gold Glove Award.

The Rawlings Gold Glove Award, which recognizes fielding excellence in each position, expanded this year to include an award for the best team defense in both the AL and the National League over the course of a season.

Rawlings Sports announced Friday night that the Tribe earned the AL 2020 team award. The Chicago Cubs were the recipients of the NL team award.

Indians’ catcher Roberto Pérez and second baseman César Hernández recently won 2020 Rawlings Gold Glove awards at their respective positions, marking the second straight year the Tribe had two players earn the prestigious award.

Last year, Pérez joined shortstop Francisco Lindor in receiving the award.
