MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio — Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested on a weapons charge in Mahoning County.

Troopers were called to Interstate 76 near State Route 534 around 2 a.m. for a rollover crash.

When they arrived, they saw a 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE on the left side of the roadway with damage.

Troopers said it was determined Porter was fatigued at the time, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle. They do not believe he was impaired.

A loaded .45-caliber handgun and suspected marijuana were found inside the vehicle.

Porter was arrested Sunday morning for improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, a felony offense, along with failure to control and misdemeanor possession of marijuana

His bond was set for $4,000.

He was released from jail a few hours after his arrest and was issued a summons for a petty offense.

Porter has cooperated with police for the entire investigation.

The Cavaliers released the following statement:

“We are aware of the situation involving Kevin Porter Jr. and are in the process of gathering information. We have spoken with Kevin and will continue to address this privately with him as the related process evolves.”
