Cleveland Browns defensive end Chris Smith is holding a candlelight vigil in Charlotte, North Carolina in honor of his girlfriend, Petara Cordero, who was killed by a drunk driver on Interstate 90 last week.
At around 2 a.m. on Sept. 11, Smith was driving a Lamborghini on I-90 westbound near the West 140th Street exit ramp when he reported a tire on his vehicle blew out, which caused the Lamborghini to veer left and strike the center median wall.
Cordero was riding in the vehicle with Smith and the two exited the vehicle after the tire blew out. While the two were out of the vehicle, another vehicle struck her. She was taken to Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Smith will hold the candlelight vigil in Cordero’s honor on Thursday from 8 p.m to 10 p.m. at Playhouse Arcade in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Cordero is from, according to Instagram posts for the event.
