Browns move backup quarterback to IR, elevate running back to active roster

CLEVELAND — Browns backup quarterback Drew Stanton has been placed on injured reserve.

Stanton joined the Browns in 2018 and has been serving as a mentor for Baker Mayfield.

Garrett Gilbert will now be Mayfield's backup.

Gilbert began his career as a sixth-round selection by the St. Louis Rams in 2014 and had spent time with the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders and Carolina Panthers.

The Browns moved running back Elijah McGuire to the active roster from the practice squad.

McGuire is 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighs 214 pounds.

This is his third season in the NFL.
