CLEVELAND — A beloved member of the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that this season will be his last.
Cavs forward Channing Frye confirmed on Friday that after the 2018-2019 season, he will be retiring from the NBA.
Rumors that Frye was planning on retiring came after he posted a picture on Instagram after the Cavs game against the New York Knicks, commenting that it was his final time playing in Madison Square Garden.
"Playing at MSG for the last time last night, had me thinking of how fast time has flown by," Frye said in the post.
Frye then took to Twitter on Friday evening to confirm his retirement, thanking his coaches and teammates and expressing his excitement for what is to come after the NBA.
Yes, i am really retiring. It’s been a amazing ride. I’ve had the chance to have some amazing teammates and play for some great coaches. I’m gonna miss it but I’m super excited to see the other side of the fence!

Frye, 35, was traded to the Cavaliers in 2016 and was a part of the team’s NBA Championship run and consecutive trips to the NBA Finals.
In 2018, the Cavaliers traded Frye, along with Isaiah Thomas and a 2018 first-round draft pick, to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr.
On July 19, 2018 Frye returned to Cleveland, signing with the Cavs after finishing his season with the Lakers.
"I’m gonna miss it but I’m super excited to see the other side of the fence," Frye tweeted.
While Frye has a lesser role this season with the Cavs, averaging only 9.5 minutes and 3.3 points per game, he has been a veteran voice to the rookies and newer additions to the team.
Assuming the Cavs don't end the season with a spot in the playoffs, Frye's final game will take place on April 9 at Quicken Loans Arena against the Charlotte Hornets.
