FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Cleveland State University Women's Basketball team is bringing home some new hardware after winning the Women's Basketball Invitational Championship Sunday evening—the team's first postseason title win in program history.
The Vikings took down Portland 67-64.
Cleveland State finished the season with a 14-9 record overall, but was perfect in the WBI tournament over the weekend, winning all three of their matchups.
Leading the Vikings Sunday night was senior guard Mariah White, who put up 24 points. Freshman guard Destiny Leo and junior forward Isabelle Gradwell followed with 15 and 13 points respectively.
Two Vikings had double-digit rebounds—Gradwell with 10 and sophomore center Aminata Ly with the team-best 14.
Gradwell's 15 points and 10 boards gave the forward her second double-double of the season.
White was named Tournament MVP while Leo was named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances.
On their journey to the WIB Championship, the Vikings took down Manhattan in the first round, 68-55, and then defeated Stetson, 64-54, before going on to get the big win over Portland.
