COLUMBUS, Ohio — John Carroll University broke records in their stunning road win over Capital University Saturday afternoon.
The Division III Blue Streaks traveled down to Columbus for a conference game against the Crusaders. The Blue Streaks not only shut the Crusaders out in their Homecoming game but ran the final score up to basketball-level numbers.
With their 12 touchdowns and two field goals, John Carroll finished the game with 90 points.
Of the 12 total touchdowns, 10 were rushing touchdowns, one was a passing touchdown from quarterback Jake Floriea and the other was an interception by Jake Bunofsky returned for a touchdown.
John Carroll’s running backs made light work out of Capital’s defense. Michael Canganelli rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns in his 13 attempts. Howard Frazier rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown in five attempts. Devin Limerick, Deven Ward, and Matthew Buser each recorded two touchdowns.
The Crusaders were unable to convert any of their 13 third-down attempts or either of their two fourth-down attempts. The Blue Streaks’ defense held the Crusaders to just 47 rushing yards and 94 passing yards.
The 90-point win over Capital University tied for the most points scored in John Carroll University's history. The team scored 90 points once before, in another 90-0 win back in 1928. Saturday's game also broke this season’s record for most points scored in any NCAA Football division.
John Carroll University continued to break records in Saturday’s massive win by also recording the most points scored in a conference game in Ohio Athletic Conference football history.
The Blue Streaks improve their record to 4-1 while the Crusaders’ record falls to 0-5. The Blue Streaks will return to University Heights to take on Ohio Northern University next Saturday at home.
