KENT, Ohio — The Kent State Police Department surprised a little boy who considers himself as one of them.

Four-year-old Patrick Tomaswick wants to be a Kent State University police officer when he grows up.

So much so that Patrick wears his own Kent State police uniform to his preschool Zoom classes.

When Patrick attends Kent State's Child Development Center class in person, he always waves to the officers that welcome him in.

Recently, his favorite police officer Joe Knotek was not on duty when Patrick arrived.

Knotek just happened to be off that day but was inspired after hearing how much Patrick missed him. He told his coworkers about Patrick, so the officers decided to make and hold signs outside the Child Development Center.

When Patrick was dropped off on May 14, Knotek was there along with other members of the department with a gift basket of police gear, including a Kent State Police T-shirt, sticker badges, water bottle, chapstick and other items.

Knotek told Kent State that Patrick will make an amazing officer one day.
