The Akron Zips Men’s Soccer Team is heading to the 2018 College Cup finals after defeating Michigan State 5-1 in Santa Barbara on Friday evening.
Akron advances to play the winner of No. 2 Indiana or No. 11 Maryland in Sunday’s final.
The Zips have been runners-up for the championship twice, in 1986 and in 2009, but have only won the title once, back in 2010 when they beat the Louisville Cardinals 1-0.
Akron was coming off a 3-2 win against the three-time defending champion Stanford.
The Zips will look to leave Santa Barbara on Sunday night with their second College Cup trophy. The game airs on Sunday at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
