EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Cleveland Browns are set to take on the New York Jets on the road, looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2002—but the road to the postseason isn't as easy as it once looked.
After a player tested positive for COVID-19 Saturday and contact tracing was completed, a total of six players were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list either with the virus or deemed close contacts.
The Browns will be without nearly all of their wide receivers, with Jarvis Landry, Rashard Higgins, KhaDarel Hodge and Donovan Peoples-Jones all placed on the list and unable to play. Linebackers B.J. Goodson and Jacob Phillips were also placed on the list and the Browns had to call up several players from the practice squad to fill the void.
In addition, left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. was previously activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list and traveled to New Jersey for the game separately, per NFl protocols, but was ruled out Sunday morning due to illness unrelated to COVID-19.
The Browns will look to embrace their next man up mentality they've rallied behind this season, but this may be their toughest challenge yet, even against the 1-13 Jets.
