STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — Strongsville High School has suspended all football activity until Aug. 27 and canceled Friday's opener against Benedictine High School after a player tested positive for COVID-19 and based on recommendations from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, according to the school.
Benedictine High School confirmed a Strongsville football player tested positive for the virus, prompting the opening game to be postponed.
All football practices and games scheduled between Aug. 24 and Aug. 27 have been suspended, the school said Monday.
Strongsville High School plans to restart football practice on Friday, Aug. 28.
While the team has canceled its opening game, it is still scheduled to play Elyria High School on Sept. 4.
The school said it has reminded parents to continue notifying coaches and staff if their student or any family member exhibits symptoms of COVID-19.
Strongsville High School has worked to create a plan for games this season, with limited ticket sales, digital broadcasting of the games for at-home viewing, mask mandates and ceasing concession sales at games. To learn more about the guidelines, click here.
