SAN DIEGO — A Northeast Ohio native made his MLB debut on Saturday night as he took the mound for the San Diego Padres in their game against the San Francisco Giants.

Nick Margevicius, the 22-year-old left-handed pitcher from North Royalton, was selected to the Padres' 40-man roster on Thursday following his minor league stint after being selected in the seventh round of the 2017 MLB FIrst-Year Player Draft.

Margevicius graduated from St. Ignatius High School before attending Rider University in New Jersey. In 2017 and 2018, Margevicius played for the several of the Padres’ minor league teams.

Although the Padres fell to the Giants on Saturday, Margevicius had an excellent debut.

Margevicius was on the mound for five innings, allowing just one run on three hits and recording five strikeouts.

With his first game under his belt, Margevicius is just the second player from the 2017 draft class to reach the major league.
