CLEVELAND — The Ohio Athletics Conference has postponed all NCAA intercollegiate athletics for the rest of the year due to continued COVID-19 concerns.
The Presidents Council of the OAC announced the postponement until Dec. 31, 2020 on Friday and stated in a news release that the Conference is planning to engage student-athletes in the fall with conditioning and preparation for competition at a later date, according to CDC guidelines, NCAA criteria and local health guidelines.
“The OAC believes we can continue to provide an excellent experience for our student athletes,” said Tim Gleason, commissioner of OAC, “while continuing to make the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff, families, fans and campus communities our highest priority.”
Cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and volleyball are the sports postponed by the OAC, and winter-season sports — basketball, indoor track and field, swimming and diving, and wrestling will be postponed for the rest of the year, with plans to resume in January 2021, the release states.
There are 10 schools in the OAC, an NCAA Division III Conference:
