The Ohio State Marching Band is making its Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut

For the first time in the 92 years that the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been held, The Ohio State University Marching Band will be performing in it.

The famed OSU Marching Band has been watched and adored by people all over the country, and on Nov. 22, Thanksgiving morning, the band will entertain 3.5 million live spectators and 50 million people viewing the Macy’s parade all around the world.

The band’s staff submitted an application to be a part of the parade early in 2017. The parade’s creative director, Wesley Whatley, made the announcement that it had been selected last September.

“We have loved you guys for years. We’ve watched you on YouTube like the rest of America, and we want you to entertain our audience of 50 million people next Thanksgiving,” Whatley said.

A year later, the band is preparing for its Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade debut, and it isn't holding back.

Christopher Hoch, director of the Ohio State Marching and Athletic Bands, said the show in New York City will be musically and visually excellent.

“This is one of the premier performing opportunities for any marching band student, and I’m thrilled that the time has finally come when Ohio State will be represented,” Hoch said.

The OSU Marching Band has been working diligently to make this performance one to remember, but its hard work won’t be finished after the parade.

The band will have its last performance of the regular season two short days after the Macy’s parade. Ohio State plays its biggest game of the year as it battles Michigan with a shot at the Big Ten title on the line on Saturday, Nov. 24.
