Urban Meyer released a statement on Twitter Friday to clarify the reasons he was suspended for his mishandling of domestic abuse allegations made against former assistant coach Zach Smith.

In the letter, Meyer cites the findings from the investigation, saying he was not suspended because he knew about or condoned Smith's alleged domestic abuse.

A special board found that Meyer was aware of the allegations of domestic abuse against Smith, but he did not deliberately lie in order to keep Smith on the coaching staff.

Meyer clarified that he did not lie at Big Ten Media Days. He points out that he misspoke and made misstatements.

Meyer is suspended without pay for the first three games on Sept. 1, 8 and 15.
