Tornadoes spawned across parts of the Midwest on Wednesday while Gaston (temporarily) became a hurricane in the middle of the Atlantic, and it seems the entire country is watching Invest 99L waiting for Hermine to develop.

While it's possible to have both of these types of storms at the same time, hurricanes and tornadoes are very different in how they form.
Other differences include their size, wind speeds, damages, lifespan and our ability to forecast them ahead of time.
Despite these differences, these storms have their similarities, too, including their disastrous results to life and property.
