One person has died in a crash that resulted in a chain-reaction of crashes on U.S. 30 Thursday, Canton Police Department confirmed.
Police said there were approximately 28 crashes on city streets and highways starting at 5:00 a.m.
The fatal crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. in the westbound lane of State Route 30, near the Cherry Avenue exit.
The driver, identified as Barry Baily Sr., 61, was involved in a multi-vehicle crash. Canton fire transported him to Aultman Hospital in Canton where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of the crashes “appears to be ice on the road with the very low temperatures and the rain,” policetold the Canton Repository.
Route 30 was blocked across I-77 until the wreckage could be moved from the road. Officers are still working on processing the reports and the scenes.
News 5 StormTracker was stuck in the backup caused by the crash earlier Thursday morning.
