Driver dies after leading state troopers on high-speed chase that ended in crash on State Route 611

AVON, Ohio — A pursuit involving state troopers ended in a fatal three-car crash on Route 611 in Avon on Thursday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Shortly after 7 a.m., state troopers located a 2020 Dodge Charger traveling recklessly on I-90 at Clague Road, with speeds reaching over 100 mph, according to Sgt. Ray Santiago of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

When troopers initiated a stop, the driver of the Dodge Charger accelerated, prompting a pursuit.

The pursuit continued westbound from Clague Road on I-90 before the driver exited at State Route 611.

The fleeing Dodge Charger struck a Ford F-150 head-on at the intersection of Chester Road. A 2010 Toyota Corolla was also damaged in the crash.

State troopers later identified the driver of the Dodge Charger in a news release as Charles Pierre-Louis Jr., 23, of Lorain. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger inside the fleeing Dodge Charger was identified as a 16-year-old from Lorain. He was life-flighted with serious injuries with University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

Route 611 is closed between Miller and Chester roads because of this crash.

The driver of the Ford F-150 received non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Corolla was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
