An accident on State Route 2 near State Route 306 in Mentor shut down all eastbound lanes early Friday morning.
As of around 9 a.m., the lanes have since reopened.
Officials said the highway would be shut down for a few hours and that drivers should seek an alternate route.
A little after 1 a.m., Mentor police responded to a call for a two-car accident on State Route 2.
According to police, a 21-year-old driving a Jeep Liberty was rear-ended by a 35-year-old driving a BMW 540 at a very high rate of speed.
The driver of the BMW was ejected from his vehicle and life-flighted to MetroHealth Hospital. The driver of the Jeep was transported to Hillcrest Hospital with serious injuries, said police.
SR-2 eastbound was closed at SR-306 was closed for approximately 7 hours while Mentor Police investigated the crash, and the debris was cleared from the road.
It is unknown if alcohol was a factor and the crash remains under investigation.
