VALLEY VIEW, Ohio — The next time you drive across the Valley View Bridge you might notice something different. The big yellow crane, called a Gantry Crane, was taken down and removed, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

ODOT has finished the latest phase of the four-year-long Valley View Bridge Project.

This fall, eastbound lanes will be moved onto that bridge. Construction crews will turn their attention to the current structure carrying eastbound traffic and begin moving the bridge deck.

When the project is complete, three bridges will carry 12 lanes of traffic across the valley, six in each direction.

"They're leaving our project and we're excited about that,” said Amanda McFarland, ODOT’s spokesperson for Northeast Ohio. “This project has done really well even despite the quarantine and all of the efforts being made during this global pandemic. This project has remained on schedule and we are very proud to say that. The contractors and the people working on this project have done a great job making sure that is the case.”

The $277 million project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2024. In its final configuration, the new bridge will be a bypass.

ODOT said the upcoming construction phase, eastbound drivers will still be able to access I-77 interchange as well as the Transportation Boulevard Exit.
