CLEVELAND — There are a lot of things you may have around the house that can help your car get through the cold weather.

Here are some tips on how to keep your car going:

  • Buy windshield wiper fluid that doesn't freeze and is streak-free.
  • You can put Vaseline or other petroleum jelly on the gasket around the doors and on locks to help prevent them from freezing.
  • If you're stuck in the snow, kitty litter under your tires can help you get traction.
  • Spray alcohol on a towel and use it to clean the grime off windshield wipers.

You should also put a winter survival kit in your car in case it breaks down.

Here are some items you should have in your winter survival kit:

  • Food
  • Water
  • Coolant
